The Story of A CatWhat do you do, when the world abandons you? When happiness is but a fleeting gesture, given and taken freely by others? You find your own.Pennifer Rose
An unassuming girl by any right. Born on a world rife with magic, every person able to harness and utilize it should they desire to. The same could be said of her. A girl who never knew her parents, one of many like her, relegated to life in an orphanage. Yet... She proved to be quite prodigious when it came to magic. Not professionally taught at her world's mage academy, but instead self-taught through many days spent in the local library, pouring through book after book, tome after tome. The basics came easily, as did some of the more advanced things... But then, one day, inspiration struck.
A Cat's Tale
Partial Feline Transformation. A decisively tricky spell, bestowing upon the user or the one cast upon a myriad of features. Furred, feline ears and a tail to match. Prominent, pointed canines. A heightened sense of smell, and increased night vision. Altered bone mass reminiscent of that of felines. The moment Penni saw the spell, and learned of it's effects, she was smitten. The mental image of herself, as a cat girl? It consumed her mind, she couldn't stop thinking about how she'd look, how happy she'd potentially be, and so, her life's goal became achieving said transformation. After much study, practice, and testing...
She did it. She succeeded in learning, and casting, the spell, and it's counter-spell, and so, one night when everyone was off to bed... Poof! As far as she told anyone after waking up the next morning, she had no clue what happened. She went to sleep a normal human girl, and woke up with feline features. On a world such as hers, such things weren't unheard of, magic misfiring during sleep due to nightmares or odd dreams, and so, accepting her explanation, she was allowed to remain as she became, much to her delight. Getting used to being a cat girl took quite some time, of course, between the added ears and tail, her change in senses, and everything else it brought, it was quite new, but she was up to the task, and before long, began thriving, every moment spent with those new features bringing her immense joy. With such a feat achieved, she believed the world was her oyster, if she set her mind to anything, she could do it, no matter what.Explosive Results
As tended to be the case with many youths, Pennifer had a slight destructive streak. Nothing so wanton as wanting to hurt others, or break things. No, she merely wanted to see what the limits of her magic were, and figured destructive magicks were the right way to test that out. More studying lead her to the knowledge of Focus Fire, a spell that creates a focused, concentrated explosion wherever the caster points. A spell typically used in construction and demolition, for it's power in providing precise explosions exactly where it's needed, and Penni? She decided this was the right spell to test. But she couldn't do it at the orphanage, no, she'd feel horrible if she hurt anyone. Instead, she went off to the local park, somewhere she loved visiting for it's scenic views and walking trails.
Sneaking off somewhere quiet, out of the way, she recalled her studies, the incantation, and began focusing. Focus, focus, focus... Fingertips began crackling with magic, as the spell was channeled... But she was careless. A brief moment of distraction, as she unleashed the spell, and instead of impacting the ground beside a nearby tree...It landed right in front of her.Thrown back by the force of the explosion, it was all she could do to shield herself with her right arm and angle her face away as much as possible, even as the searing heat burned through clothes and seared skin. While the explosion was the first thing those in the park had heard, Penni's screams of pain were the next, and with swiftness, she was rescued by paramedics and whisked off to the hospital.1 Month. One month was how long she spent in the hospital. One month of painful recovery, hair shaved to a pixie cut to better manage the bandages on her face, right arm firmly enveloped in many thick bandages wrapped around it. Magic... Magic tends to be a tricky thing. As much as it has been thoroughly studied, much and more is still unknown about it. One such thing being how to aptly mend damage caused by magical heat. As that month neared its end, the bandages finally came off for good... And Penni was given her first look at the damage that remained.Burn scarring, leathery in texture, rough, ragged, covering much of the right side of her face, and her right arm from wrist to shoulder. Scars that would require much care to keep the skin as healthy as possible. Fortunately, advancements in science merged with magic had graced the world with many such treatments to keep any kind of skin healthy, making upkeep of her new scars easier.Lies and Half Truths
Upon being discharged from the hospital, Pennifer was returned to the crowded orphanage she lived in. She never had many friends to begin with, always seen as the quiet girl who preferred to read instead of socialize, but the few she did have began to drift away, as she attempted to settle into her changed life. Not because they were mean to her, or anything, not at all. Penni became mistrustful, she began thinking that people were just pitying her, because she was visibly damaged goods.
And so, she lied. Instead of admitting what the cause of the incident was, she began to lie, omit details and give half-truths, to hide her shame over having exploded herself. Her magic, once a source of her greatest joy, became the cause of her biggest shame, and so she rejected it, spurned any desire she had in becoming a mage, and pretended she never was able to use magic. If she could hide this, and if people believed her, then things would be easier.Right?Love to Live, Live to Love
In time, and with much therapy aiding her, Penni came to realize that, hey, lying to people? She hated it. She hated hiding what happened, lying about what she did to not feel ashamed. No matter how much she tried to deny it, no matter how much it had hurt her, she truly did, and does, love her magic, that which granted her feline side, even if said magic had hurt her. And past that, she realized life, and all it's flaws and broken bits, was something that made her happy. Being able to wake up, to smile, have fun, wander, and grow, it brought her joy.
She loved life, and decided she wanted to spread that love, to as many people as possible. Sure, some people would reject her, ridicule her, or outright hate her, simply for being who she is, but she knew she couldn't please everyone. An impossible goal no matter who she was. So she became a streamer. Leaning heavily on her nerdy, dorky persona she'd always had, she decided to cultivate a haven of love and kindness as everyone's big sister. What better way to spread love than as the world's kind, silly, pun loving big sister. She loved to live, and so her life's goal became living to love.
